Rural Schools Collaborative and their partners are supporting 50+ rural schools to use data to achieve post-secondary success. Paloma superintendent and principal Kristin Turner desired to see change in the academic atmosphere at the Paloma ESD and is leading that charge by making major changes in the school’s goals. One of those changes is joining the GRAD Partnership which focuses on organizing a school community to support the overall well being of the student, academic progress and college or careers transitions. “We joined the GRAD Partnership because we wanted to be more intentional about how we support our students. Attendance isn’t just a number—it’s the foundation for everything else, and we knew we needed the right tools and support to move that work forward,” said Kristin Turner.

Michael Deiana, superintendent and principal at Antelope Union High School in Wellton, AZ, has seen great success with his overhaul of the school’s handbook, including decreased absenteeism and behavioral issues among students. The impact of students and staff holding each other accountable can create a distinct shift in the achievement of the school, which is one of the goals of the GRAD Partnership.
